Ampang Yong Tau Foo

Published by Coconutkun under on 10/06/2009 06:54:00 AM
When i was first brought to Ampang..the first thing that came into my mind was to try their Yong Tau Foo; since this place was so famous for it..On reaching Ampang, you'd be amazed at how YTF outlets there are..Of course, my first reaction was to head to the more commercialized ones; the ones with larger, more colourful billboards, larger crowds ..my friend pulled me back..err, we're going to this one (seen here in the pic).."err, wokiee"..My opinion of this place (the food esp) isnt that great actually, since for me, all yong tau foo tastes somewhat the same..it wasnt until the second time that we came here that one of our guests commented, "wow, this is the best yong tau foo on earth"...i was like "really meh? "(scrambling to take another piece, chewing it slowly and trying to tune my mind that this was the greatest yong tau foo in town..)..lol..peer pressure mah..

One thing unique about this place is the way orders are made.. You head to the counter with a rough list (of food) of what you have in mind and place your order (plus your table number) to the person there ..once your order is finalised and stuff, your order is put thru a microphone which is amplified on speakers throughout the whole restaurant..Basically, the whole restaurant knows what you're ordering..There isnt much to ponder about on what to order actually, since your choices are: how many pieces of yong tau foo mix(mixture of yong tau foo types you want); pcs soup sui gao; pcs of fried dumpling; how many bowls of rice/noodles-soup or dry.

I think the thing that sets this place apart is the ingredients they use in their yong tau foo..one prominent taste is the coriander aka cilantro aka chinese parsley ingredient which they put into the fillings (of the dumpling)..deh, those little green stuff commonly found in some of those chinese soups and steamed fish..I know, some of you hate that taste since the herb tastes a lil pungent.. But for the rest, i think this place is worth recommending since everyone likes the yong tau foo here (i am neutral on this one)..the crowd is always huge so, you have to trust the crowd..

Maybe coz I haven't really tried out the real Ampang YTF :P

But I think the real charm in YTF is the mix-and-match concept, like economy rice.
