Published by Coconutkun under on 4/12/2009 10:40:00 AM
Cham loh~ thig blog is becomming a food blog...This time its MYOB nasi lemak ("Mind Your Own Business" nasi lemak...We'll its nicknamed so, because this stall doesnt have a name actually..mayb it does..but heck, no one knows...and everyone calls it MYOB nasi lemak..why? because an MYOB office outlet is located above the stall, hence, the MYOB nasi lemak..Located at Bukit Tinggi, this place is frequented by gamers from the nearby CC..i used to be one of them, but now i am old already..The thing about this nasi lemak is it packs hell of a punch to your taste buds..its in the SAMBAL and its damn good..the downside about this place is, is the place is really dirty....c'mon, clean up the place a little..but who cares, this place is always packed at night!

Wan Tan Mee @ Wah Chai

Published by Coconutkun under on 4/12/2009 07:26:00 AM
What's the heaviest noodle in the world? The answer: Wan Tan Mee (1 tonne noddle)..Everybody knows that Wantan Mee is a common dish. They come in various styles of making e.g in black sauce, in some places with ketchup, in hot sauce and so on; but most of the time, you either call for the black sauce version or in clear soup..other options such as the ketchup version, hot sauce and so on, are unique and rare to a particular place.

This time around, Restoran Wah Chai, Bukit Tinggi has made entry into this blog. It's a hawker center basically, so they don't just sell one thing..There used to be great Red Wine Noodles here, (which my mom loves), but there isnt anymore..What is still standing here however, is their wan tan mee - Klang is not only famous for only Bak Kut Teh okie.. This place has made it to the papers a few times actually..and i think, what stands out really good about their dish is the accompanying char siew and paikut..the noodle is nice too (alot of fried pork oil..lol)..the price however is a little expensive, RM 5 for the small plate (just a little expensive) I think most of the price goes down to pay for the meat..not the noodles..

Rathaa Curry House

Published by Coconutkun under on 4/10/2009 07:37:00 AM
Last Wednesday,i called up tai ka che (Devin) for a drink since i was nearby her place..She recommended me to this Southern Indian Cuisine which had nice Banana Leaf Rice..Its called Rathaa Curry House located somewhere in Puchong; belok here and there (confused~) and then sampai ed @.@"...the thing great about this restaurant is that the turnover is real fast, and they constantly replenish their food. So the things here are always hot and fresh.. They even cooked the meat i ordered then and there(which you usually dont get at your usual banana leaf restaurant)..This time, Devin recommended me the Chicken 65 (no idea what 65 implies) but its basically chicken cutlets fried with curry leaves, chillies and onions..Surprisingly, the meat is really tender, succulent and you dont get this kinda things often at any other place (most of the times, indian fried meat is most of time abit crispy/hard).. In fact, I have not tried this at any other place.. nice recommendation.. According to Devin, this place is packed during lunch hours and weekends and surprisingly, patronised by alot of chinese customers too..Its open from morning till night..breakfast-lunch-dinner-supper

Notice how all the guys turn their heads to look whenever my tai ka che enters any restaurants

Ipoh the return

Published by Coconutkun under on 4/09/2009 08:11:00 PM
Well, so okie...Ipoh is not only about mountains..its a place where all the chun chicks come from.. annnndddd ...its a place for good food..Here is my makan experience @ Ipoh last November08'...Me and the guys stopped by the town for some coffee before proceeding to Cameron that time..Ipoh is so famous for coffee..In fact, the Old Town Kopitiam outlets you see everywhere in Malaysia has its origins from the lil old shop of Nam Heong which you see here in this pic. According to my friend however, locals actually prefer Yoon Loong compared to Nam Heong (i wonder why? anyone?). Yoong Loong is located directly opposite Nam Heong and they are both competitors (arc rivals?). However, ill give credit to Nam Heong for franchising the outlet nationwide and creating a reputable brand image out from it. I guess its a great success. Clap clap..

Ipoh's not only about coffee, there are tons of other good stuff too..But how much can you eat in half a day's visit..Fortunately, we managed to try their famous bean sprout chicken and kuey tiew soup before leaving the town.. really nice ..i think its gotta be the sauce or whatever lah.. its really nice.. indescribable.. after main course its gotta be desserts lo...not too far from the bean sprout chicken restaurant, there's a lil shop tucked at the corner which sells great soy bean drink and bean curd..i guess its safe to say that this shop should be another familiar place in town..its really famous for what it sells..my comment..its really fresh...nice and light.. Hope to see you again IPOH!!

BBQ Chicken

Published by Coconutkun under on 4/07/2009 04:11:00 PM
The No.1 Korean BBQ Chicken? So they claim..and i was there to try it myself..The rating?not bad..very tender and juicy..In addition, they use extra virgin olive oils to fry/grill/marinate their chic..but they need to work on their food appearance..a little more garnishing goes a long way..I decided to try their sorbet too..and its really flavourful..i dont usually eat sorbets..but this one is different!.. Nice choice of having it in the menu..Surprisingly, BBQ chicken is all over Malaysia..never heard of it? me neither..but its a good start..click here their for location details..

They seem to boast their friend chicken but i wasnt so into fried stuff that day..So then this piece(the one in the pic) came to my attention because it was called Jerk BBQ..its not like after eating it, youll feel like a "jerk"..but the word jerk actually refers to the technique of roasting food over fire.. thumbs up for the jerk..anyway, its supposed to be spicy but i was rolling my eyes when i ate it..sikit spicy pun tak da.. Korean's need to understand our defination of the word spicy

Ipoh vs. Kedah

Published by Coconutkun under on 4/02/2009 05:28:00 PM
Here i go again, traveling up North for an interview again..i still recall my tai ka che reacting "What!! Are you..(drops silent).. " I already have an offer, but i just wanted to weight my options..futhermore, this company is a huge one and the potential for me to grow was there..The outcome? i think there is going to be a second offer. Its great news i know, but consider the consequences - ill be leaving my family, the gang, my friends and city life..

So, off i went to Kedah;evaluating the state that im gonna spend at least 2 years of my life should i accept the job...Well, Kedah isnt that all bad actually..Life's slow and peaceful here..vast paddy fields(so ill never go hungry) and easy going village life..Humble little pekans thrive all over and everything seems so slow paced..Smack right in the middle, however is Kulim Hi-Tech park (where the company is at), an industrial area, defining its own pace regardless of its surrounding.. Highways paved their way to this area..Its like two different realms side by side and ironically, they seem to coexist..i wonder what life would be?..I still recall the interviewing manager saying "you could run off to Penang during the weekends if you find it boring here..things here are pretty ..sslllooooowww" haha, I am sure he's pretty bored here as well..

Enough said about Kedah, you cant get to Kedah from KL without by-passing Ipoh..its a state full of mountains and hills.. Here are some shots of Ipoh, Perak..So how do you differentiate Kedah and Perak...Kedah has alot of paddy fields..and Ipoh has alot of mountains..something like that...The drive from KL to Kedah was madness (5 hours)..thank God, there are alot of scenic views along the way..

Note:All pic seen in this article are taken from highways

Taman Connought Pasar Malam

Published by Coconutkun under , on 4/02/2009 04:54:00 PM
Just yesterday, the makan team decided to head down to Taman Connaught Pasar Malam for the usual Jalan-jalan cari makan..Just for your information, the pasar malam (night market) located here in Cheras is the biggest of its kind in Malaysia. yes, its long..and yes, there is alot of food.. The layout of the pasar malam is shaped like the alphabert "T" and i think its safe to say that majority of the pasar malam is dominated by chinese traders. The pasar malam is usually packed during the later hours of the evening, usually starting from 630 onwards. so, if you hate crowds, perhaps you could come a lil earlier say about 530..Surprisingly though, unlike typical pasar malams that start packing up around 10, this one opens until 12. Definately recommend this place for those who haven been here..But after awhile though, youll notice that the pasar malam seems to repeat itself..everyone is selling basically the same thing-clothes, food, drinks, bling-blings..they cant run far..
