Poori

What could it be that Ming's describing??with such emphasis..with the gestures and stuff... he seems to be describing something sandwiched?.. something big?round?..with great big teeth viciously grasping its prey..

Fortunately for us, its nothing that dramatic..just a Poori from a typical indian restaurant..but not just any normal Poori..I think the Poori served here at Selvaa's (beside ACS school in Klang) is great..unlike many indian restaurants that prepare them by great quantities and allowing them to lau fuung (meaning stale),this place makes them fresh, thus its crispy and hot..For those who dont know, Pooris are actually fried bread.they come as flatten dough, fried and bathed in boiling hot oil, in such a way that it inflates..as seen in the picture, when served, we were playing with our food; poking our Pooris for the steam to come out..

The main problem with Pooris like i said, is that many restaurants dont make them fresh..so u would mostly see them in a deflated state, in many ways, loosing its charm..They are quite bland in taste actually since technically, its fried flour..This then leads us to the dipping..any curry would accompany this dish fine but the best here has got to be their potato curry..So the crispiness of a freshly prepared Poori coupled with wonderful Potato curry makes this one a must try..

I dont know what sparked up the conversation at that time, but we were thinking, wouldnt it be great if there were cheese Pooris?..We decided to stir up a little havoc in the restaurant that day, requesting for one..There isnt such a dish in the menu so we left it up to the guy to just make one..it was real fun; the guy making the Poori was real sporting and willing to give it a try..Unfortunately project Cheese-Poori failed; the fragile structure of the Poori just couldnt take the weight of even a slice of cheese..nonetheless, cheese Poori tasted real good and we found out another great combination..

Enough said about Poori, we tried other stuffs at Selvaa's too.. Things like their curry puffs and fried chicken are really worth mentioning..Please dont order their mee hoon, iit sucks big time..
