SKYTREX, Bukit Cahaya
Published by Coconutkun under on 10/26/2009 09:32:00 PMWaterfall, jungle, hill, waterfall, jungle, hill..tak bosan ke? So, we visited ports and beach lohh T.T"..now what? Thank God we had an activity planned out and booked about one month ahead of us (we gathered 25 of us for this activity)..and the time has come for us to go for it.. its got something to do with trees and jungle but the difference is, this time we travel from treetop to treetop..cool huh? but doesnt that sound like FRIM's 20ft-above-ground-250m-long canopy walk?..well, err, yea but no..FRIM wan was walking from tree to tree across suspended bridges..This one involved flying fox, swinging acts, balancing on ropes, 'monkey bar'ing and some other obstacle course which i cannot describe it with words..lol..So basically its an obstacle course la, but factoring in FUN, you forget that it's an obstacle course anyway..as usual, i forgot to intro that this place i was referring to is Skytrex..is it safe to say that its one of its kind in Malaysia? Well, at least, i think it is..
So here we are at Bukit Cahaya doing Skytrex, little did we know we signed up for the extreme package..meaning its the hardest of the package they offer ..gosh!..Having no prior experience, first, climbing a few ladders to get up the platform that was 20 ft high was one thing..jumping off the ledge flying fox style for the first time is another ..Is it dangerous? Of course it is!..of course, all safety equipments and briefings/training were provided..but still, have heard stories of some smart alec who made the jump without checking his equipment..check your fastenings properly!
Basically, you have safety harness which goes around your waists and between your legs..This has gotten the all the guys comparing each others' somewhat strangled crotch..a lil uncomfortable but it was great fun to make fun each other's..the girls however, didnt seem to have any problem though..darn..extending from the harness are Karabiner hooks which are constantly hooked on to safety wires which holds ya; just in case you fall..Well, talking about dangling on ropes, i had the privilege of being stuck in the middle of a 100ft flying fox swing..although a little embarressing, i have never felt my life dangling on a piece of a rope..yikes, dont look down -but hey, dont worry..its really safe ya, the wires can tahan wan..managed to catch one of my stunts on cam too! check out the vid below (its hard carrying a cam on one hand while the other grabbing the rope, so appreciate this vid la sikit ya). As for those really afraid of heights, pls don't go or chicken out at the ayam exit (lit. meaning 'chicken' exit)..but once you chicken out, your journey ends there..
For those having the intention to go, this place is highly recommended..but choose the correct difficulty lo...they have intermediate and for children as well..but even though ours was the hardest, its not that difficult la come to think of it..just will sakit-sakit badan after the whole event..my advice:train your upper body strength a little before you go..carry light (you be given a strap to carry just your water bottle and nothing else)...carry compact cams instead of SLRs..get ready RM40 per pax and RM3 for gloves and RM3 for Bukit Cahaya entrance fee and RM 'forgot-how-much' for locker rental..the RM 40 is paid in advance ya, when you do your booking..and youre set to go..all events are halted during rainy days and please leave about half day free for this event..a memorable and fun experience..
