FRIM I

Published by Coconutkun under on 6/15/2009 08:18:00 PM
At the time i am writing this blog, i am recalling the faces of how awed my students would get when i described to them about the jungle canopy..its something that you just cant draw on the whiteboard with a marker nor is it any good trying to explain..you have to see it for yourself to really appreciate it..but my little kids are really cute; some with their jaws wide open when i describe to them..I had the opportunity to see my first forest canopy during my f4 (or was it f5) school trip...and the memory remains until today..C'mon? what is this place?..this place is none other than FRIM (Forest Research Institute of Malaysia) in Kepong..

So, many Kepongites, same goes for ppl from around Kepong, flock FRIM for their routine morning walks. Companies, schools and organizations can be seen organising events here quite frequently as well. Even married couples come here to take wedding photographs!

FRIM offers quite a huge collection of tree species in its "sanctuary"; it wouldnt be a research institute if there are only a few. Here, they study about trees..educate people about nature..What is really interesting about this place is their canopy walk and their hanging bridge (this is a must go...watch out for my article on this COMING SOON)..there is also a museum, a few aboterums, nursery and a waterfall here-but those are side dishes..Comment: the waterfall will be a bit disappointing if you see where the source is from; its from a pipe..LOL.. But that aside, the are a lot of weird trees here.. This makes the place really interesting..Take a look at the collage and take for example this one on the right..Look carefully..its not painted..that's the real bark of a tree!

Nippon Tei

Published by Coconutkun under on 6/10/2009 08:36:00 PM
Nippon Tei..the restaurant with the red raccoon mascot..The place where my first date was in f5 (in one of their outlets in MV )..and its one of the only places where i'd come to and never order other dishes other than what you see here in the video.. of course, other ppl will order other things and i usually get to sample lohh..This time around, i was here to meet Lai Yin, someone whom i haven't met for a year (seems like years) while i was pursuing my MBA..What i have ordered is actually their seafood spaghetti which still wriggles whenever it is served..ITS ALIVE~!!!..haha..Well, what is moving is actually the tune flake garnishing on the noodle..Gosh, do you noe tuna flakes are also cat food? LOL..but what i am refering to is those thin brownish transparent color tuna shavings (usually accompany jap noodles, esp. stir fried ones) I think the steam or the hot noodles cause the flakes to react in this way ..anyway, i find it very interesting to look at..and its also very delicious too.. Lai Yin opted for the Noodle soup with tempura that day and we also ordered an additional soft shell crab as extras..Nice lunch with you Lai yin...remember to do your project paper whenever you read this! Nippon Tei outlets can be found at MV, KLCC and Times Square..I like their warm sake here too! tastes like sake..only warm...LOL...

Happy Belated Mother's Day

Published by Coconutkun under on 6/09/2009 07:46:00 PM
Haha..its not like i celebrated my mother's day later then it should be,but since the article is posted way after md, hence the word "belated"..So where did i bring my mom for md this year? I brought her to Fuku Tei...what? Fuk..U..Tei?..LOL..Well, initially i wanted to bring her to a secret hidden Japanese restaurant wan but since Fuku Tei is new in Klang, so i decided to give it a shot loh.. Md celebration aint perhaps the most special day my mom gets..Everyday IS!!..So happy to hear from her that with me around, everyday is mother's day =). That just made me promise her to treat her another round ;)..Lol..So, throw in a bouquet of flowers and a box of nice chocs..something more special than the average day, = a simple mother's day lohh..eh? why like Valentine's day geh? I used to give my mom chocs as long as i can remember..But some expensive chocs and special ones she mm seh tak sek..she rather just look at it..so cute!..Well, that was until one day i discovered that one of the chocs was expiring which prompted her to start finishing them rather than keeping it for display..I once recorded there were almost 30 different kinds of choc in my fridge at any one time of the day..But now this phenomenon doesn't occur anymore.. its something like FIFO now ..This time around, i decided to buy her something from Chocz, KLCC..Well Chocz, i believe has its origins from Spore, offers not only chocolates but also has a little cozy cafe section..You really have to check this one out cos they serve a special kind of hot choc drink..I wont tell you what's special, go check it out yourself ; ) Oh yah, so back to Fuku Tei, this place is really neat, except for the sunlight which makes certain part of the restaurant a little too glaring.. The ambiance gets better once the sun sets. This place has its own sakea bar-Thats so kewl..Also, it has a 2 private rooms, mayb 3 and the food here is nice..Owh, and Fuku Tei isnt just at Klang. This is their new branch but they were established elsewhere before..youve to check out from their website on this for other locations..

Alexis and Sakae - 2 in 1 article

Published by Coconutkun under on 6/04/2009 09:58:00 PM

So, back i was in Klang after my Cameron trip..it was a really crazy, come to think of it..4 days in Penang, Alor Setar and Langkawi, 3 days in Cameron and a week to go before the 11th May..had alot of catching up to do with my friends and to be honest, i still am until today (its 5th June at the time i am writing this blog).. I think ill write it here- ppl, treasure your single life, man!! =) you dont get the chance hangout with everyone one once youre "double"..the more reasons id get cos i have started work, juggling between family, friends and time for yourself is important..imagine adding a girlfriend into the picture...i guess, one of the elements has to sacrificed right? Haha, but ill never forget some of threats i get from my gal friends "If you find a gal (gf), dont you dare forget me, i'd come and smack you"..LOL..okie, i get it and perhaps through i experience too, i have learnt that friendship is just as important as your relationship with your partner..

The reason i themed this article yin and yang in this two events in one article was because i wanted to incorporate the message "balance"-Malas nak tulis dua blog, cakaplah..I wouldnt say i have perfected the art of balancing my life but hey, least imma happy..Do what you love doing and have fun doing it.. Here are two events with my lovely mui2s at Alexis Midvalley (all pictures in white borders) and at Sakae Sushi, Aeon Bkt Tinggi (Black borders) throughout one of the days in the week...

So this is what i think about Alexis. Alexis was okie lah..the air-cond was cold and by the time the food came, we were eating ala cold clams and chilled tandoori meat..The bill came to about RM 350 that day-wahaha..the waiter sent us the wrong bill..Its surprising how many business ppl patronize Alexis..Its concept is leaned towards somewhat a bistro "combo"ing with a white classy interior finish..Not so classy if you look what's above though..the ceiling is naked! ;) ..Lastly, i figured that the indian cuisine and samosa somehow didnt fit into what concept the place was trying to portray..the rest was a-okie..

Sakea sushi..I believe this restaurant began its concept in providing cheap sushi to customers..Now, it somehow evolved into duno what..LOL..oh ya, and sakae began in Spore ya, not Japan or something...I always recalled my bad experience whenever i eat here. I was at their teppanyaki section watching the chef pouring like liters(exaggerating) of oil into the dish that i was about to eat..So u can imagine the impact of first time impressions.. However, no two outlets are of the same..and anyway, siapa suruh makan(eat) teppanyaki and indian dishes kat tempat where their speciality is sushis and western respectively..sifat han..LOL..The interesting thing about Sakae outlets is that each table is equipped with a computer monitor and a mouse in which you do your own ordering..so its kinda kewl in a way but not so kewl if youre stumbling with it..

They were saying that index finger shows ur testeron levels while the ring finger shows your estrogen levels..Hell yeah! imma a real man..

Cameron Sungei Palas

Published by Coconutkun under on 6/02/2009 08:34:00 PM
Nice? I think so too...Nothing like a nice cup of hot tea in cold Cameronian weather..many would say that Cameron isnt that cold anymore..i beg to differ..it was freezing..u guys must be at the wrong place! my friend almost got blown off the balcony here..LOL..

The cafe you see here is one of the few Boh tea cafe outlets here in Cameron..This particular branch is called Sungei Palas and is the most popular amongst the other outlets for reasons: (1)its a tea centre; (2) the factory is nearby(you can go for factory visits); (3) their specialty shop is there(you can buy whatever tea you want - peach tea, mint tea & apa-apa je lah~) and (4) there is a real nice view overlooking the Valley of tea! You can also run among the tea leaves like in those Bollywood series..and no, i wasnt thinking of doing that..

Then there comes the food comment part..This is probably the easiest article to write cos' one word summarizes everything.. "FAIL".. sorry~ had to be cruel..yup, that's right, all the pastries and cake seen here looks delicious but looks can be deceiving..i dont want to comment any further.. But hey, the tea and scenery is great; so it kinda like covers up for everything that's lacking here.. I would recommend those thick flavored teas that Boh has to offer; don't go for the mild ones-cos they are really mild.. Unfortunately, the cold weather chills the tea fast, so your hot cup of tea doesn't stay that way for long..
